Lesson 4 · Learn
Completing the Musical Alphabet
Meet A and B
In our last lessons, you learned the white keys C, D, E, F, and G. The musical alphabet only has seven letters, so the final two white keys in the group are A and B. You can easily find A tucked between the second and third black keys in the three-black-key group, with B sitting right next to it.
The Repeating Musical Pattern
Once you play B, you have completed the entire 7-note musical alphabet of C, D, E, F, G, A, and B. Instead of moving on to the letter H, the alphabet loops right back to C and starts all over again. This exact same pattern repeats up and down the piano, sounding higher or lower but using the same letter names.
Spotting the New Notes
To build your confidence, practice looking at the clusters of black keys to anchor yourself. Notice how A and B always bridge the gap between the group of three black keys and the next group of two black keys. Let's practice playing through these new notes so you can hear how the pattern resets.
